FAQ - Settings

These example FAQ's are based on material from www.workoutofoffice.com

I'd like to change my settings, but I have lost the password.
The password to the Always-On Mail web site has been sent to your email address, so please, check your mailbox for the message. If the message can't be found, you can request a new password by clicking the "Forgot your password" link at http://www.alwaysonmail.com/iedition/home/. A new password is generated automatically by the system, and sent to your email address immediately.

What is the purpose of "keepalives" in the Always-On Mail settings?
Keepalives are tiny data packets that are used for keeping the connection active when there is no data to transfer. Usually they are not needed but some operators drop connections after a short inactive period. A short description of the different values are:
Automatic: Always-On Mail automatically turns on keepalives for 24 hours if it notices connection to be dropped systematically.
On: Always-On Mail sends keepalive package every 5 minutes to ensure connection to be active for receiving pushed emails.
Off: Always-On Mail does not use keepalives at all. This is not recommended option to optimize the push experience.

Time stamps on emails are incorrect
Please check the time settings on your email service and device as Always-On Mail gets its time from the ISP's server, not from SEVEN's relay server.

Can I change how many days of email the phone retains after the install?
You can change the time which emails are stored on your phone within your Always-On Mail client's settings on your phone. Amongst your settings is the option to decide how long emails will be stored on your phone. For example, when you set the amount to 10, any emails older than ten days will be removed from your phone.

How do I get the best of the email filters?
Please see article about Internet Edition Filters for complete instructions how to use the filters!

How often does Always-On Mail connect, to pick up my email?
Always-on Mail tries to keep the GPRS connection open at all times. If the phone has poor coverage and cannot connect the GRPS, then Always-On Mail will try to connect for a while every 5 minutes, if this does not succeed either, then Always-On Mail will try to connect only every 15 minutes.

Why I can't download a 375 KB attachment?
Currently Always-On Mail supports downloading attachments up to 300 KB (Symbian devices). With smartphones, attachments up to 400 KB can be downloaded.
If the attachment is larger than this, the Always-On Mail client does not allow you to start downloading. The limit is in place to control the data costs. Transferring a large attachment over the mobile network takes quite a while. If connection is lost in the middle will downloading start all over again when the connection is available again. When the size of the attachment gets bigger, the probability for connection to get dropped gets higher.
Always-On Mail client has no limitation for uploading attachments BUT currently uploading a file requires that the complete file can be loaded in memory and encrypted, this naturally requires a lot of RAM, depending on the case the limit is likely to be somewhere between 300-400kb.

When installing, I didn't have the option to choose IMAP instead of POP3, and now I cannot edit the mailbox that was created.
Always-On Mail service chooses automatically the best possible server configuration, so if IMAP is available at the time of the installation, IMAP is chosen. Ports are searched in the following order: IMAP (143), POP (110), IMAPS (993), POPS (995).
To activate IMAP on your account you can try signing in to the web service http://www.alwaysonmail.com/iedition/home/ and choosing the Mail server configuration. If you change the server name to IMAP and the server test succeeds (not all service providers let their IMAP being used), you will be able to configure your account for example so that only the header is pushed to your phone.

Nokia says that the model 7710 manages HTML e-mails, but the ones received through the Always-On Mail service are not viewed as HTML and I cannot find any configuration parameter for that.
Always-On Mail service doesn't push mails in the html format. If there's a plain text version and an html version of the email message, Always-On Mail service chooses the plain text version. If only html version is available, Always-On Mail software removes the tags and delivers the email as plain text.
